New Zealand started batting with Martin Guptill & Colin Munro arrived as opening batsmen and Guptill got out caught by Kusal Mendis for Malinga in fourth ball of first over scoring single run as 2/1. New Zealand lost first five wickets earlier frequently within 10 overs scoring 55 runs. Sixth wicket partnership between Ross Taylor (33 runs in 37 balls with two 4s and a six) & Doug Bracewell (44 runs in 26 balls with a 4 and five 6s) of 47 runs when Ross Taylor got out with Dickwella catching in Thisara Perera’s bowling when the score was 102 runs in 14.5 overs. Leading scorer Doug Bracewell got out as seventh wicket caught by Dhananjaya de Silva for Rajitha in 17.3 overs. Scott Kuggeleijn (35 runs in 15 balls with a 4 and four 6s) & Tim Southee (13 runs in 8 balls with a six) remained not out until the end of 20 overs with total score of 179 runs in 20 overs for seven wickets in this New Zealand vs Sri Lanka (2018 – 2019) Only T20 Match.

Lasith Malinga (2 wickets) & Kasun Rajitha (3 wickets) dominated earlier in the innings picking five wickets in first 10 overs. The next 10 overs, New Zealand batsmen demolished Sri Lankan bowling and scored 124 runs in 10 overs. Thisara Perera & Lakshan Sandakan both players picked a wicket each. Rajitha picked the important wicket of Doug Bracewell and Thisara Perera picked the wicket of Ross Taylor.

Sri Lanka arrived with a target of 180 runs to score in latter part of this New Zealand vs Sri Lanka (2018 – 2019) Only T20 Match. Opening batsmen Sadeera Samarawickrama got out bowled by Lockie Ferguson with no score in the fifth ball of first over with team score of 11/1. Kusal Perera joined Niroshan Dickwella until 3.3 overs together scored 30 runs when Perera individually scored 23 runs in 12 balls with three 4s and a six before being caught by Bracewell for Kuggeleijn. Dickwella followed him to pavilion giving catch to Seifert in Bracewell’s bowling. Kusal Mendis was joined by Thisara Perera (43 runs in 24 balls with two 4s and three 6s) for fourth wicket and scored 49 runs helping Sri Lankan total to raise 94 runs when Kuggeleijn caught Mendis in Southee’s bowling as 4th wickets in 9.5 overs. Fifth wicket was Thisara Perera in 12.3 overs as 118/5. The remaining five wicket fell in the next four overs and scored 144 runs totally for Sri Lanka as a reply to New Zealand losing 10 wickets in 16.5 overs.

New Zealand bowlers Lockie Ferguson & Ish Sodhi both players picked three wickets each. All other four bowlers picked a wicket each for New Zealand in restricting Sri Lanka from reaching the target and was successful in doing so. Ferguson picked the crucial wicket of Thisara Perera, which led the Sri Lankan innings to end quickly.
